
INTERPROFESSIONAL EDUCATION
The Interprofessional Education (IPE) module equips students with the competencies necessary for effective collaboration with colleagues from various health professions in patient care, health promotion, and disease prevention. It prepares students for future interprofessional work environments by fostering a team-based approach to healthcare delivery.
This module is structured into two training phases:

Phase 1 focuses on developing interprofessional attitudes and collaborative skills through standardized patient scenarios. It is designed for fourth-year medical, pharmacy, and dental students, as well as third-year nursing and physical therapy students.

Phase 2 emphasizes the application of interprofessional attitudes and skills in community and primary care settings. It is intended for sixth-year medical students, fifth-year pharmacy students, and fourth-year students in public health, nursing, and physical therapy programs.

Module objectives
Respect for ethical standards and values in interprofessional care:

Respect the distinct roles, responsibilities, and expertise of various health professions, and acknowledge how these factors may influence the effectiveness of interprofessional collaboration.

Respect the diversity of cultures, beliefs, values, and personal characteristics of each member within the interprofessional team.

Demonstrate openness, sincerity, and trust toward other team members in interprofessional settings.
Fulfillment of professional duties and responsibilities in interprofessional care:

Identify and explain one's own roles, responsibilities, and competencies, as well as those of other team members, in addressing specific health needs of patients, families, and communities.

Reach consensus among team members on how they will coordinate to address specific health needs of patients, families, and communities.

Demonstrate one’s role and accountability as a member of an interprofessional team in meeting the specific health needs of patients, families, and communities.
Interprofessional communication:

Analyze the effectiveness of communication cues in interprofessional collaboration, including both verbal and non-verbal signals.

Express personal viewpoints clearly and confidently using appropriate communication methods; provide respectful and constructive feedback to other team members.

Engage in active listening and remain open to the perspectives and inputs of other interprofessional team members.
Team formation and collaboration:

Achieve consensus on shared goals, specific tasks, and guiding principles for team operation.

Build and maintain a safe, effective, and inclusive team environment that encourages maximum contribution from all interprofessional team members.

Analyze the strengths and areas for improvement in the team development process to enhance interprofessional team performance.

Experiential learning, project-based learning, and integrated 360-degree feedback are the primary educational approaches used in this module.
