CLOSING CEREMONY OF THE ADVANCED FACULTY DEVELOPMENT TRAINING COURSE ON “COMPREHENSIVE PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT PROGRAM” (CPAP) – COURSE 1

On the afternoon of May 20, 2025, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City (UMP) held the Closing Ceremony of the Advanced Faculty Development Training Course – “Comprehensive Performance Assessment Program” (CPAP – Course 1). This was the first of two consecutive training courses within the program, conducted over a continuous four-week period from April 21 to May 20, 2025, with the participation of 66 faculty members from UMP and Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine (PNTU).
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Professor Ho Hoi and Professor Ho Kim Tuyen from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso, USA, who served respectively as Director and Co-Director of the educational collaboration program among the three institutions. Representatives of the Board of Presidents and the leadership of the Center for Medical Education from both UMP and PNTU were also in attendance. The event brought together all course participants, including department heads, unit leaders, and faculty members from the two universities.

Throughout the course, Professor Ho Hoi and Professor Ho Kim Tuyen delivered lectures and shared their expertise on learner assessment aligned with learning outcomes, as well as the design of evidence-based assessment systems. These sessions were conducted in an open, dialogic, and highly practical learning environment. The training was vibrant and engaging, featuring a variety of professional discussions, practical experience sharing, and collaborative analysis and resolution of common challenges in student assessment. In her remarks at the closing ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Vuong Thi Ngoc Lan – Vice President of UMP – extended heartfelt thanks on behalf of the university’s faculty to Professor Ho Hoi and Professor Ho Kim Tuyen for their dedication in sharing professional knowledge, practical experiences, and in inspiring a deeper understanding of the role and significance of assessment in modern medical education. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lan also emphasized that the insights and knowledge gained from the program will continue to be studied and applied in upcoming academic activities, contributing to the ongoing enhancement of training quality at UMP.

Representing PNTU, Dr. Dao Thi Thanh Binh – Head of the Center for Medical Education – expressed sincere appreciation to the two professors for their continuous support throughout the program. She also shared her hope that the course would go beyond the acquisition of knowledge and be effectively implemented in teaching and assessment practices at the university through projects developed from the program.

To conclude the ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Duc Khanh – Deputy Director of the Center for Medical Education at UMP – on behalf of the Organizing Committee, extended sincere thanks to the two professors and all faculty members who took part in the program. He also announced that CPAP Course 2 is expected to be launched in October and November 2025, continuing to provide opportunities for faculty development in assessment competencies.
The closing of CPAP Course 1 not only marked the completion of an intensive training course, but also acknowledged the dedicated and effective participation of faculty members from both universities. This milestone represents a significant step forward in enhancing assessment practices – a critical component in ensuring and improving the quality of medical education, as well as preparing for competency-based examinations in the health sciences.
